Resonetics

Medical Device Manufacturing

Resonetics provides innovative outsourcing solutions for medical device OEMs who design and manufacture products used primarily in minimally invasive procedures. Deploying three (3) clean room facilities in an ISO 9001-2000 quality system, Resonetics is the preferred prototype and volume contract manufacturing partner for catheter, balloon, filter, and various small scale implants. Leveraging the largest capacity of UV-based laser systems in the US (+50), Resonetics manufactures a full range of product offerings, from devices with annual volumes over a million pieces per year to high value, lower volume products.

Resonetics core competency is the laser micromachining of polymers, glass, ceramics and thin metals for 2-D (flat and tubular) and 3-D geometries. In addition to laser micromachining, Resonetics provides value-added manufacturing services such as catheter finishing (cutting, tipping, flaring) to help its OEM partners meet their outsourcing needs in a cost-effective manner.

Resonetics offers a "Fast Track to Micromachining Services" program to accelerate the design cycle, affording device engineers a vehicle to quickly prototype multiple designs in a very short time period. This service is critical for VC-backed start ups as well as established Tier 1 device manufacturers.

A major strategic objective of the corporation is to drive down manufacturing costs through the use of innovative processes and automation. As minimally invasive procedures become more commonplace, automation of every step of the manufacturing process is critical through the use of robotics, cassette handlers, auto part loaders and automated inspection. The corporation's large staff of engineering and application resources generates significant horsepower to meet the most demanding application.

Value Added Manufacturing

Although Resonetics Laser Micromachining Division’s core competency is laser micromachining, Resonetics works closely with medical device partners to provide value-added manufacturing both before and after the laser micromachining process.

Material Outsourcing

Resonetics can purchase extruded tubing and cut extruded tubing to length. If required, Resonetics will cut the material or extrusion to the specified length. Resonetics will perform laser micromachining on the material and return the device to the client.

Value-Added Manufacturing

Many of Resonetics value-added manufacturing steps do not involve a laser. Often these value added manufacturing steps are proprietary to the medical device client and cannot be disclosed.

Here are examples of some of Resonetics value-added manufacturing capabilities:

  • Program Management
  • Material management
  • Material storage in dry nitrogen box or refrigeration
  • Catheter extrusion or balloon cut to length
  • Catheter tipping
  • Catheter flare cutting
  • Catheter step cutting
  • Stringing of wires through multi-lumen catheters
  • Mechanical punching
  • Balloon forming
  • Sub assembly manufacturing and testing
  • Flow testing
  • Ultrasonic cleaning
  • Post cleaning
  • Vacuum-sealed packaging
