Business Proposition
Resonetics offers a unique business proposition by combining two world class divisions (Laser Micromachining and Laser Systems) to provide a comprehensive value proposition. Customers are often posed with two options when considering using laser micromachining technology to manufacture a device or component.
- Outsource the manufacturing
- Purchase capital equipment
The customer may elect to outsource the manufacturing to a laser job shop or volume contract manufacturer. However these companies often view their manufacturing technology as proprietary because they do not wish customers to bring the technology in house. For medical device companies, this can be problematic as government regulations require manufacturing processes to be validated so it would be desirable if the exact process parameters and methodology were well-known and documented for the customer’s review.
The alternative is to purchase a piece of capital equipment. To make this decision the process needs to be developed, often with laser manufacturers, who do not have extensive application labs and may not be time sensitive to the customer’s demanding schedules. Laser manufacturers are interested in selling laser sources, not a turnkey laser system. Purchasing a laser micromachining system requires significant capital investment of hundreds of thousands of dollars with an associated lead-time.
In between these two options lies the option of outsourcing the manufacturing for a limited period of time and then bringing the technology in-house or install a system overseas as a part of an overall cost-reduction program. In such a scenario, the customer may require to work with outsource partners and then, in parallel, work with laser system integrators to “re-develop” and "re-validate" the process, lengthening the lead-time to production launch.
Resonetics offers a total business solution without any limitations since the company offers both outsourcing services and laser systems. By Resonetics offering a true full service partnership, the customer has immediately both a short term and long-term solution. Under a non-disclosure agreement, manufacturing processes and technologies can be freely exchanged, giving the customer the comfort and knowledge that the manufacturing process is under control. And should the manufacturing be transferred off-site, a custom laser system can be build and the entire original manufacturing process is transferred. The customer can rest easy, knowing the process has been fully documented and characterized.
